Ticket holders: you may request a refund from the original ticket outlet if you are unable to attend on 29 March, or you may wish to consider the purchase price a donation to Nelson Coastguard.

Tickets will remain on sale until Friday 27 March at Knapps Lawyers in Richmond and Motueka, TSB Bank on Trafalgar St, Sand & Land and Stoke Garden & Landscapes.

Original post

Knapps Lawyers’ Boulder Bank Challenge is on again this year and coming up fast. Mark your diary for Sunday 22 March – our postponement date in case of bad weather will be the following week, 29 March.

This is a great event for the whole familly – although very young ones would need to be carried 🙂  We take you from Wakefield Quay by bus to the end of Boulder Bank Drive, you walk the 9 km back to the Cut, and we bring you back by boat. Along the way you can go by the baches (owners have been known to offer you a cuppa and give you a peek inside), go up to the top of the lighthouse, listen to speakers on the history of ‘the Bank’ and see Nelson from a different perspective. We also have a barbecue going at the lighthouse so you don’t get too hungry. 🙂

Tickets are $20 for bus/boat option, $25 to go by boat both ways. Tickets will be available in mid February from the following locations:

Knapps Lawyers, Richmond and Motueka
TSB Bank, Trafalgar St, Nelson
Sand and Land, Tahunanui
Stoke Garden & Landscapes, Saxton Road

  1. I’m interested in the Boulder bank challenge with my two children. As we live in Atawhai it would be easier for us just to start from the Boulder bank rather than have to get to Wakefield Quay. Is this an option? Would ticket prices be the same. Also is the ticket charge the same for children as adults
    Many thanks
Also in the event of cancellation I would be unable to participate the following weekend. What would be the situation regarding possible refund.

    • Yes you can start at north end but you must notify us of numbers, be past Boulder Bank Drive by 1045 and at the Cut by 2pm. No discount on price sorry and children same price as adults.

      • Re weather. If we postpone due to weather and you cannot attend next weekend, you can get a refund or consider it a donation to Coastguard.

    • Buses depart at 8:15, 9:00 and 9:45 am. We encourage everyone to get tickets in advance to ensure they get the departure time they want. For those wanting the “boat both ways” option, departures are 10:45, 11:15 and 11:45.

  2. Hi there, just wondering if there are tickets available still for this coming Sunday? We weren’t in town last weekend, but would be keen to join the challenge this weekend.

        • No, a pram would be pretty useless and you would end up carrying it as well as your child. You will be walking on small to medium rounded boulders much of the way. A child can be carried in a backpack if you are strong enough to carry them the full distance, otherwise not recommended.
