Bench refreshed after 24 years

Nelson West has re-painted a bench seat in the Port Hills, one of five that the club built 24 years ago, in 1989.

[This work was done in 2013 – for an update, read down to the bottom of the post.]

The bench at the corner of Abraham Hts and Quebec Rd had peeling paint and graffiti, but now looks inviting again for those wanting to take a break and enjoy the view while walking in the hills.

We only recently rediscovered this bench at The Cliffs, which also needs a coat of paint.

Three other benches, on Brittania Heights, Princes DriveĀ and Will Watch Way, are all still in great shape. Photos below.

However, we missed this one, which looked rather rustic! A nearby resident contacted us and offered to pay for the materials needed to refurbish it.

The bench on The Cliffs - good as new!

The result is below – Thanks, Bernie! and thanks, Murray!

  1. The bench seat at The Cliffs is in front of my house and badly needs refurbishing with new wood an painting. I have painted it once but really needs a professional job. Their are two more seats nearby – which may need attention too. ie. Whitby Road and on the track upto Princes Drive. I am happy to pay for this work to be done as a small contribution to Nelson and the City we love to live in. No big deal but it is all I can do help towards the good work you guys do.

    • Hi Bernie. Thanks for your comment. Murray Butler at No. 37 (of Nelson West Rotary) is planning to do the seat on the Cliffs. Not sure if the other two are Rotary benches but we can have a look at them. Thanks again.
