Knapps Boulder Bank Walk – 10 March 2019

The 10th Annual Boulder Bank Walk is on 10 March 2019

Nelson's Boulder Bank and lighthouse

Nelson’s Boulder Bank and lighthouse

This year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this iconic Nelson outing.

This is a great event for the family – although very young ones would need to be carried. We take you from Wakefield Quay by bus to the end of Boulder Bank Drive, you walk the 9 km back to the Cut, and we bring you back by boat. Along the way you can go by the baches (owners have been known to offer you a cuppa and give you a peek inside), go up to the top of the lighthouse, listen to speakers on the history of ‘the Bank’ and see Nelson from a different perspective. We also have a barbecue going at the lighthouse so you don’t get too hungry–be sure to bring some cash to buy something to eat.

The walk is sponsored once again by Knapps Lawyers and TSB Bank, Nelson.

Buses depart from Guyton’s carpark on Wakefield Quay at 8:15, 9:00 and 9:45 am. The “boat-both-ways” option is available at 10:45 and 11:15. Some tickets will likely be available on the day, but best to get tickets in advance to get the departure time you want. In any case, please arrive at least 10 minutes prior, and allow extra time if parking your car (Guyton’s carpark is P120, so not suitable).

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children (14&under). Tickets for Boat-Both-Ways option are $30 and $18. Our ticket sellers are

Knapps Lawyers, Richmond (not open Saturdays)
TSB Bank, Trafalgar St, Nelson
Stoke Garden & Landscapes, Saxton Road

If you don’t get to our ticket outlets, we usually have some tickets available on the day. Be sure to bring sunscreen, a parka, sturdy shoes, water bottle and a hat.

In the event of bad weather, the postponement date is 17 March. Refunds will be available for ticketholders who cannot attend on that date.

Collecting for Foodbank

Our members have been at Countdown Nelson at Paru Paru Road, collecting for Foodbank. We encourage shoppers to buy an extra item and drop it in our trolley as they exit. We deliver to Foodbank and they make sure the supplies get to families who are struggling at Christmas time. Thanks to so many people who have been very generous with their support again this year. And thanks to Colin and Dick for organising the roster. Merry Christmas!

EggShellz for sale

President Shellz has teamed up with Murray B to come up with a novel way to raise funds for Shelterbox – free range eggs! Members put in orders or just rock up with a few coins at our Wednesday meetings and take home 6 or 12 eggs fresh from the henhouse – choice! Last week Murray even delivered a dozen to my letterbox – all for a good cause, eh.

Two more happy customers!

Ray gets a buzz

Ray gets a buzz

Every year at our charity auction and dinner, members of Nelson West put themselves up for hire. This year our newly minted Paul Harris Fellow, Patsy Connell, was the recipient, getting her deck cleaned and punga logs installed for edging along her driveway. Ray and Mike organised the materials, and Jim and Murray B provided some extra hands, and the job was done by 11 am. Thanks, team! (And thanks to Patsy for the cheese scones!)

Exhibitors car park at the Home & Garden Show – very nicely done, team!

Members of Nelson West spent some of their weekend looking after car parking and security at the Home & Garden Show this weekend. The organisers pay us for this duty and we use the funds to support charitable causes and community groups in Nelson – everybody wins!

Cawthron Science Fair

Take one empty hall, a stack of 60 tables and about 150 chairs, then add 10 Rotarians from Nelson West Rotary. What do you get? The Cawthron Science Fair all set up and ready for 150 students and their projects!

Then a week later, we packed it all down and got Founders Energy Centre ready for the next event to move in – the Nelson Arts Festival.

Thank you, Nelson, for supporting people in need this Christmas.

In support of Nelson Food Bank, Nelson West Rotary recently held its annual “Cash or Cans” event at Countdown supermarkets and again had a generous response from the public.

The attached photo shows just one of several carloads of goods on its way to Food Bank.

Thanks to Rotarians and friends for volunteering your time to ask for donations.
